A new meaning for LOL

This article was sent to me by Sue Ann Obremski.  She has given new meaning to LOL—Little Old Ladies but these are powerful ladies that have brought such happiness to others by sharing their talents.  Enjoy the story and please comment and share.

Once a year The Women of Quail Creek, Tucson AZ give a Military Baby Shower, for 30 Air Force National Guard, military spouses and/or military moms that are pregnant with their first child.  Thirteen babies were already born and 8 of those babies came to the shower. So we LOL (Little Old Ladies) got our baby fix by holding many them.  Oh babies smell so good when they are so new.

It is so much fun, a committee of 18 guild woman collect donations, monetary and/or articles everything from lotions, onesies to strollers.  The needle crafter and quilting group donate quilts, Afghans.  Four days before the shower we Diaper bags, Mom’s Bags, Laundry baskets.  Each mom gets one of each of those filled.  Then there’s e 30 raffle prizes and we make sure each Mom gets a raffle prize.  There’s a few raffle prizes that anyone interested in winning can put their name in the bag for a chance to win that prize.  Those prizes were; a diaper cake they have to guess how many diapers make up the cake, closest guess wins, two Christening outfits a gown and a boy’s suit, a crib blanket with embroidered baby designs, baby bottle to guess how much money (coins) was in the bottle and closest guess wins.  The theme was Tell Me a Story, so we had books for all of them.  I so enjoy this event and love making things.  I ended up making 550 items for the babies and moms.  There’s buffet lunch for all and games for the moms to win more prizes.  When all is done it takes them about 4 trips to the car with all the things.  The whole day is very emotional and what is moving is all the fathers came with the mothers except for 4 fathers, and 3 of them were on duty protecting our country.  There was one father stationed in Afghanistan and he wrote us from there and thanked us for what we had done.  We had many of the fathers come up to us at the shower and thanked us and one father even broke down and cried and there were tears all over the place.   The whole day is very moving.  There were 13 babies already born and 8 of those babies came to the shower so we LOL (Little Old Ladies) got our baby fix by holding them.   Here are some pics of the things.
